About Us

Lyons & Volpi Leather Co. SoleLyons & Volpi Leather Company Inc. was formed in 1994 as a partnership between Joseph Lyons, former V.P. of Howes Leather Co. (a US tannery), and Volpi Concerie, one of Italy’s premier sole leather tanneries. With the demise of Howes Leather Co., one of the two remaining U.S. sole leather tanners in 1994, a void was created in the sole leather market that Lyons & Volpi Leather Company Inc. set out to fill by importing leather.

Since day one, Leather Company Inc. offices and warehouse have been located in Pocasset, Massachusetts— one mile from the Bourne Bridge— however we are now located in Boston, Massachusetts.

Our partners and primary source of leather, Volpi Concerie, Srl., have been making leather in Italy since 1951, when Giuseppe Volpi and his two sons, Romano and Vinicio, began making leather with one drum. Over 50 years, the tannery grew tremendously.

We started selling cut soles for shoe repair and eventually began selling sole leather bends and cut soles to large shoe manufacturers such as Sebago, Allen-Edmonds and Alden. Also, gradually, Lyons & Volpi began to service the many U.S. customs boot and shoe makers including M.L. Leddy, Kimmel Boot, Western Leathercraft, and E. Vogel.

In 1998, after noticing the increasing use of rubber in shoes, we began importing rubber for shoe repair from SVIG, Srl., an Italian rubber manufacturer. Like sole leather, and with the demise of U.S. rubber producers, Lyons & Volpi Leather Company Inc. gradually started selling rubber to sandal and shoe manufacturers.

Today, we are one of the largest importers of Italian sole leather in the United States.
